Ol’ Hank moved back to Alabam’ when he had all he could take
Well, lately, I’ve been thinking I’m feeling the same way
So I sent a prayer to Jesus, and He got back to me
Said, “If it’s burning up your soul, son, you best just set it free.”

So I flew in to L.A. through a big ol’ cloud of smoke
On a red-eye out of Nashville, a place I still call home
Yeah, all I’d lost along the way I came to find out here
With Shooter and a five-piece band in the heart of Hollyweird

We ain’t doing it for the money, ain’t doing it for the fame
I just think it’s time to make a little change

I ain’t mad, I ain’t bitter
You just ain’t seen this side of me
I’ve been down, but I ain’t no quitter
'Bout to get back up on my feet
Yeah, ’cause I still got dreams to dream

(Give it to ’em)

I ain’t mad, I ain’t bitter
You just ain’t seen this side of me
I’ve been down, but I ain’t no quitter
'Bout to get back up on my feet
Oh, ’cause I still got dreams to dream
Yeah, I still got dreams to dream
Yeah, I still got dreams to dream

I still got dreams to dream

Ol’ Hank moved back to Alabam’ when he had all he could take

Well, lately, I’ve been thinking I’m feeling the same way

Down a dusty Dixie road

My old Levi’s draggin’ tracks

Nobody cares ‘bout where I’m going

All they know is I’m comin’ back

I wish I had me a true fine woman

Let her rock me all night long

And maybe we could get it together

Like people do in them old love songs

I can hear somebody laughin’

Funny how it makes me sad

Well, God, I wish it was Sunday morning

‘Cause Saturday night’s sure feeling bad

I wish I had me a true fine woman

I’d let her rock me all night long

And maybe we could get it together

Like people do in them old love songs

(Come on)

Yeah, I wish I had me a true fine woman

I’d let her rock me all night long

Maybe we could get it together

Like people do in them old love songs

Maybe we could get it together

Like people do in them old love songs

Fresh hot coffee, ain’t hot long

Full tank of diesel and then it’s gone

New old motel, fresh-made bed

Eight hours later, it’s a mess

Everything in this life’s temporary

There ain’t nothing ours to lose

So when it comes down to this old boy’s heart, I promise

I’ll be a long time lovin’ you

This old guitar, brand new strings

They’re good for one show and then lose their ring

Until I’m called on the Man upstairs

This sweet feeling ain’t going anywhere

Everything in this life’s temporary

There ain’t nothing ours to lose

So when it comes down to this old boy’s heart, I promise

I’ll be a long time lovin’ you

The world keeps turnin’

These old embers

They’ll be burnin’ for you

Everything in this life’s temporary

There ain’t nothing ours to lose

When it comes down to this old boy’s heart, I promise

I’ll be a long time lovin’ you

I’ll be a long time lovin’ you

Today is one of those days

I wish I worked in a hardware store

Think I could be okay not playing music on the road no more

I’d be making keys instead of C chords

Selling paint and two-by-four boards

I wouldn’t have to live these restless songs

I could start my week on Monday

Nine to five and off on Sunday

Sleep in my bed every night at home

It would keep me going but I wouldn’t be gone

Today is one of those days

I wish I worked in a hardware store

Well, I already know a thing or two about hardwood floors

I could sell the hell out of plumbing

Forget these roads I’m running

I’ve been guitar strumming way too long

I could be your friendly hardware man

The one that quit this traveling band

For the simple life back home

It would keep me going but I wouldn’t be gone

Live close to work so I could walk

Be with my children while they’re small

Stop this bus, I’m going home

I wanna sit out on my porch

Drink a beer and thank the Lord

And hear the bluebirds sing a song

It would keep me going but I wouldn’t be gone

I wanna sit out on my porch

Drink a beer and thank the Lord

Hear the bluebirds sing a song

It would keep me going but I wouldn’t be gone

I wish I worked in a hardware store

Broken plates and drywall scars

How’d we get to where we are

Something’s wrong and that ain’t nothing new

Heaven knows it’s a sin

There ain’t no place that we haven’t been

It’s just a case of lovers’ déjà vu

It’s part of life

It’s part of love

We may fight, but soon enough

It’ll pass and that’s the way it goes

I figured I’d just come in here

Settle down and have a beer

Listen to the tales the jukebox knows

"All kinds of stories of lovin’ and hurtin’ and cheatin’

The devil and the angels of the Lord, all competing for your soul

And all for a quarter a spin

There’s rhythms that’ll send your heart racing

And fables about the world you’re facing

And a cold mug so you can drink it all in"

It’s part of life

It’s part of love

We may fight, but soon enough

It’ll pass and that’s the way it goes

I wish that you’d just come in here

Settle down and have a beer

Listen to the tales the jukebox knows

You gave me all your heart could give

I gave nothing in return

Well, I struck the spark that lit the flame

And then I watched it burn

Now you say with him

Is where you want to be

Mmm

It took a man to keep you

But to lose you, took a fool like me

Loving you should’ve been an easy thing

Oh, but here I am alone

I took for granted, I took everything

And never noticed you were gone

Ah, but when you washed your hands

They sure came clean

Mmm

It took a man to keep you

But to lose you, took a fool like me

Whoever said a fool is blind, they won’t ever see

‘Cause he ain’t never met the kind of fool like me

Now I see you out on the street

You’re all wrapped up on his arm

You don’t even look my way

You’re too caught up in his charms

Ah, remember when I swept you off your feet

Mmm

It took a man to keep you

But to lose you, took a fool like me

Yeah, I guess it took a man to keep you

But to lose you, took a fool like me

Temperature’s dropping

Soon there’ll be snow on the ground

That fireplace is popping

Seems so loud when no one’s around

The weatherman’s forecasting record-low temps around here

Yeah, the chill of December really hits different this year

All the neighborhood houses are lit up like the Fourth of July

And there’s frost on the windows, and it’s dark as a dungeon at mine

As the bitter winds blow, the truth’s never been so crystal clear

That the chill of December really hits different this year

It’s just the start of winter

And already the shivers have made it here to Tennessee

And the cold and the lonely

Cuts to the bone without you and your sweet love beside me, hmm

Well, I could get up and put another log on the fire

Get into a bottle and pretend I’m the one you desire

The warmth of your body on another man brings me to tears

Yeah, the chill of December really hits different this year

Mmm yeah, the chill of December really hits different this year

Well, today he traded his big '98 Oldsmobile

He got a heck of a deal

On a new Porsche car

Well, he ain’t wearing his usual gray business suit

He’s got them jeans and high boots

With an embroidered star

And today he’s 40 years old going on 20

Don’t look for the gray in his hair ‘cause he ain’t got any

He’s got a little young thing beside him that just melts in his hands

Yeah, he’s middle-aged crazy, trying to prove he still can

Yeah, he’s got a woman he’s loved for a long time at home

But now the thrill is all gone

When they cut down the lights

They’ve got a business, they’ve spent a while comin’ by

It’s been a long uphill climb

Now the profits are high

And today he’s 40 years old going on 20

And he hears of them sordid affairs and he ain’t had any

And the young thing beside him, you know she understands

That he’s middle-aged crazy, trying to prove he still can

Mmm... still can

Yeah, that lil’ young thing beside him, you know she understands

He’s just middle-aged crazy, trying to prove he still can

He still can

He still can

Oh, I still can

It’s like a bad dream

That just won’t go away

God knows I wish it would, but it won’t

No matter how hard I pray

On a good day, it eases up

For minutes at a time

But for the most part, it’s right there

And driving me out of my mind

Mistakes were many, and there aren't

Any excuses I can use to make up for

The things I did and can’t undo

She don’t want to hear about no more

'Cause when you lie, it’s black and white

Wrong isn’t right, ain’t never gonna be

That’s why the one I did it to

No longer has a thing to do with me

And the hurt goes on and on and on

Since she’s long moved on

You never know how good you have it

‘Til it’s gone

Can’t count the times I’ve called her

But then again, can’t fault her for never answering

If it were me, the silent treatment

Would never show a sign of weakness, I’d just let it ring

'Cause when you lie, it’s black and white

Wrong isn’t right, ain’t never gonna be

That’s why the one I did it to

No longer has a thing to do with me

You’d think by now I’d know better
You’d think I’d learn, get burned, forget her

She’ll break my heart again if I let her
I swore last time would be the last time I let her
You’d think by now I’d know better

Fool me once,
Shame on you
Fool me twice
Now who’s foolin’ who

You’d think by now I’d know

She’ll break my heart again if I’d let her
I swore last time, this time I’d forget her
You’d think by now I’d know better
You’d think by now I’d know

There’s a box filled up with memories

Beside me on the seat

Of a rusty wore-out pickup

That cranks without a key

An old map on the dashboard, It’s wadded up and torn like my soul

Well, this old town I’m leaving now, it’s just another wrinkle in the road

The wheels keep on turning while

The windshield wipers brush away the snow

I wish that they could wipe away these tears

But I’ve just learned to let ‘em roll

I slow down just long enough to find the change to pay another toll

I tell myself that it’s all right, it’s just another wrinkle in the road

She thought she would be the one

To make me settle down

And I had lots of faith in her

At least right up ‘til now

I believed she was over him, but I found out tonight that that ain’t so

One more empty promise put another wrinkle in the road

The wheels keep on turning while

The windshield wipers brush away the snow

I wish that they could wipe away these tears

But I’ve just learned to let ‘em roll

I slow down just long enough to find the change to pay another toll

I tell myself that it’s all right, it’s just another wrinkle in the road

The wheels keep on turning while

The windshield wipers brush away the snow

Oh, I wish that they could wipe away these tears

But I’ve learned to let ‘em roll

Well, I slow down just long enough to find the change to pay another toll

I tell myself that it’s all right, it’s just another wrinkle in the road

That memory in my rearview now is just another wrinkle in the road

"Here we go, boys.

So long, LA — 1, 2, 3…"

So long, LA

So long, sun

Well, adiós boys, it’s been fun

What we came to do, we got it done

So long, LA

So long, sun

I brought the blues out on this trip

Left a few on the corner of Sunset Strip

A couple more down at the Rainbow Bar

They ain’t all gone, but it’s a damn good start

So long, LA

So long, sun

Adiós boys, it’s been fun

What we came to do, we got it done

So long, LA

So long, sun

It feels good to be feelin’ good again

And it’s sure been a long time comin’

Hello Nashville, my old friend

Damn, it’s good to be back home again

Got a brand-new fire burnin’ in my soul

And a record in my pocket full of solid gold

So long, LA

So long, sun

Adiós boys, it’s been fun

What we came to do, we got it done

So long, LA

So long, sun

"Yo, Shooter — bro, hope you’re doing good, man.

Bad weather in Tennessee tonight.

Sittin’ in my garage playing country songs —

It’s kinda my therapy late at night.

Thought I’d send you this one, man.

Great one off that album that your dad did."

Well, time’s catching up with me ‘cause I’ve been on the road

And the keys to the city are all I’ve got to show

And though it’s easy to take home the belle of the ball

I’m gettin’ tired of it all

I’m gonna love you once and for all

‘Cause you’re the one to help me find myself

And I’m gonna love you and nobody else

‘Cause you pick me up every time I fall

And if you ever need me, just give me a call

And I’m gonna love you

Once and for all

Alright"
