Not many guys could drive a 1966 seafoam green Volkswagon Microbus, dubbed "Jake's Love Bus," and still look cool. And yet, Jake Owen pulls it off.In the video for Owen's new tune "American Country Love Song," he hopped in an iconic vintage bus and went on a road trip from Nashville to Key West."The song is about feeling young and free," Owen tells PEOPLE. "I've done videos before where there's a bunch of people standing around putting make-up on me and I don't think of that as being free. I wanted the all-American road trip."The new video concept: Drive, have fun and take it all in. "I thought why don't I just get in a van with the director and take some good friends and hit the road and see what happens?" says Owen."I've gone through a lot in the last couple years," says Owen, 34. "And it was nice to just literally drive 55 miles an hour in the right-hand lane, which was as fast as we could go, not be in a hurry, and along the way see what happens... Stop places, play music, eat some good food and talk to people."
Country Music legend, Merle Haggard, passed away on his 69th birthday yesterday, and Jake paid tribute to him during a Facebook LIve session from his home in Nashville. Check out the video below.

Today, iHeart Media hosts the world premiere of Jake Owen’s much-anticipated new single,
“American Country Love Song.”
Jake has described the song, written by Ross Copperman, Ashley Gorley and Jaren Johnston, as having "the feeling of freedom and being young and adventurous. It is a broad-spectrum glance in a three-minute song that describes a couple of kids living that American country love song. It’s also a much larger celebration of the love story that is America itself, from cowboys and cowgirls to cheerleaders and quarterbacks in small towns and big cities. It’s the thought of, ‘Hey, let’s raise our glasses to the fact that we are all one in the same.' Wherever you live in this country, we are basically living one big American country love song.”
Love is a common theme throughout Jake’s forthcoming album and that is what inspired him to purchase a 1966 Volkswagen bus, which he has dubbed the “Love Bus.” He decided on Monday that he is going drive 1000 + miles from Nashville to Key West, Fla., beginning Saturday, March 5 to share the love and new music. Fans can follow his progress through Instagram & Twitter (@jakeslovebus) He will also invite fans to meet up with him along the route, which will be revealed soon.
I have always wanted to do this. Let’s load up in this thing and take a road trip and see where it takes us and document the things that happen along the way. It goes right in line with the song.
The purpose is to see firsthand that the lyrics of the single are real, whether you live in a big city or a small town. I want to be able to show that what I am singing about in this song is exactly what is happening on a day-to-day basis in America.
My goal at this point in my life is to promote positivity and love. When I stop in a town and visit with people, they will realize that I am not just talking the talk, but I am walking the walk. We all need more positivity in our lives. I’m ready to bring it.
