ORIGINS: JAKE OWEN ON GAC RISING COUNTRY STAR...
In his hometown of Vero Beach, Florida, Owen enjoys an airboat ride on Blue Cypress Lake with twin brother, Jarrod and reminisces about the first time he told him that he’d been hired for his first gig. “I remember him coming to tell me that he got a gig playing on a barstool at a happy hour,” Jarrod said. “I didn’t know that he knew five songs!”
Owen also heads to Melody Music, the store where he bought his first guitar and seems genuinely surprised to find they now sell sheet music of his hits. “That is weird, man, to think that I got my first guitar in here and now they’re selling sheet music to my music.”
It’s clear that the Grammy-nominated artist comes from a loving, tight-knit family. Parents Mitzi and Steve joke about one of his early performances at Florida State but are far more serious when recalling the phone call from their son, asking for their permission to leave20college, move to Nashville and pursue his dreams. “He was absolutely right,” dad Steve remembers. “He met the right group of people (in Nashville) and the timing was right.”
Origins: Jake Owen also features an acoustic performance at a waterfront club he played regularly before moving to Nashville.
