BIRMINGHAM, AL (May 17, 2011) -- On Tuesday, June 14th, the country music community will unite to assist victims of the tornados that ravaged Alabama on April 27th. “BAMA RISING: A Benefit Concert for Alabama Tornado Recovery,” presented by Verizon, will take place at Birmingham’s BJCC Arena. It will feature performances by ALABAMA, who is spearheading the event, Brad Paisley, Sara Evans, Sheryl Crow and numerous other artists. See below for a list of performers and special guests who have been confirmed to date.
ALABAMA’s Randy Owen, speaking on behalf of the group, states, “My hope is that this will bring happiness and help to my fellow citizens in Alabama. I believe it's extremely important that we do this benefit, and I want everyone in the state to feel like they are part of it. I hope we all can pull together to help get through the worst natural disaster I've ever seen in Alabama. I appreciate my friends in country music, everyone that's been involved, and anyone that's helped in any way.”
The Bama Rising Fund has been established at the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham to support long-term recovery statewide in the wake of the April 2011 tornadoes that devastated Alabama. Decisions about how to deploy Bama Rising concert proceeds and gifts to the Bama Rising Fund will be made by an advisory committee including representatives of the artists, promoters and the Community Foundation.
Kate Nielsen, president of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham : “We are pleased to serve as the philanthropic partner for the talented artists who are committed to our state’s recovery through the Bama Rising concert. A sell-out crowd will help the Bama Rising team raise significant dollars for long-term recovery efforts across Alabama and show our citizens that we are committed to their future.”
Jeff Mango, president – Georgia/Alabama Region, Verizon Wireless : “The community’s response to the devastating tornadoes in Alabama has been truly inspiring, and we know that a natural disaster of this magnitude requires that response be sustained—so that the people in the community can thrive and in some cases, rebuild. That is why we are so proud to be involved in Bama Rising. Thanks to the generosity of so many who want to help, this unforgettable event will bring together people from across the great state of Alabama and beyond to support their friends, business associates and neighbors as they work for a common cause – to rebuild.”

Dear Jake: I am a 55 year old, married, mother of two. Girl 30. Boy 27. Because of some things that have happened the past few years, I developed "severe" anxiety. On May 10th, my husband and I celebrated our 36th anniversary. I used to use proper English but since I started listening to your music, I now recognize "aint" as a word. What I want to tell you is the 36 years of marriage "ain't" been easy!!! A lot of things happen in 36 years! I just want to say THANK YOU, JAKE!!!! for helping me overcome my severe anxiety. My anxiety almost paralyzed my life!!! Every morning when I woke up I felt such dread!!!! Everything was so dreadful!!!! I told God I won't kill myself, but if I don't wake up in the morning, it will be OK with me. Jake, you need to know I am a believer. I have a personal relationship with Jesus. I have asked Him to be the Lord and Savior and Manager of my life -- so I can't give you ALL the credit for helping me overcome extreme anxiety, but you DEFINITELY HELPED A LOT !!!!! The first CD I bought was "Starting With Me" I listened to that CD over and over and over. It spoke directly to me!!! I just drove around inmy car listening to that CD while making sure that I drove very carefully! I had allowed the pain in my life to harden me! I couldn't even cry any more! I got so hard!!! But your music started speaking to me about life. It said to me - you better be careful about what you are doing!!! You might look back and not like what you see!!! That is why I have stayed married and faithful all these years. Honestly, the "D" word has come up a few times. But I know 100% it would be a matter of time until we looked back and we would not like what we see. I memorized all the songs on that CD. I went and got another CD "Easy Does It" I started driving around and listening to those words. Jake, I just gotta tell ya -- YOUR MUSIC JUST MELTS MY HEART LIKE A PAT OF BUTTER ON A RED HOT IRON SKILLET !!!!! Your music started softening my heart with help from God!!! I attend church almost every Sunday. Your music taught me so much about love!!! I started feeling love towards my husband again. Honestly, it had died!!! Your music taught me so much about making love (Good thing I'm still married!!!) It's legal and its moral !!!!! I had dinner with some girlfriends last Thursday night. I was sharing your CD with one of my girlfriends (currently going thru divorce). I SAID I THINK I LOVE JAKE !!!!! Her head kind of jerked. She said "What about your husband?" I SAID I THINK MY HUSBAND LOVES JAKE TOO !!!!! When I listen to Jake's music, I just get really hot and want to make love to my husband (we had become a little slack in that department which my husband cojmplained about from time to time -- Hope that's not T M I !!!) Just a couple of days ago, my husband and I were in the kitchen together. All of a sudden that song came on "I love the way she dances around in her underwear!" My clothes came flying off and next thing I knew, I was dancing around in my underwear !!!!! I'll just leave it a mystery what happened next !!!!! Anyway Jake -- I hope this gets back to you because I have been wanting so badly to tell you how much your music has helped me overcome my extreme anxiety !!! If it helps me, surely it will also help other people too!!! So Jake, if you support BAMA RISING -- I DO TOO !!! (That comes from one of your songs !!!) Jake, I'll be with you in spirit at BAMA RISING !!!!! SING YOUR BIG HEART OUT !!!!! I also love to help other people!!! I'm going to go get my charge card right now (I just joined your fan club!!!) and make a donation to BAMA RISING! Just call me -- HOT MAMA IN KANSAS CITY !!!!! JNETEEE@AOL.COM May 21, 2011
