Jake Marries Lacey Buchanan in Sunrise Ceremony

Country star Jake Owen and his model girlfriend Lacey Buchanan are officially Mr. and Mrs. Owen.

The couple, who met when Buchanan appeared in Owen's music video for "8 Second Ride" and began dating after she starred in the video for his hit "Barefoot Blue Jean Night," tied the knot in a sunrise ceremony Monday morning in Owen's hometown of Vero Beach, Fla.

But there were no blue jeans on the beach.

The bride, 22, wore an Amsale gown and veil and the groom was casual in a white linen Armani shirt and Tommy Bahama drawstring pants though both were barefoot on the beach as the sun rose over the ocean.

"That was my idea, because it's symbolic of the dawn of a new day and starting our new life together," Owen told PEOPLE.

Thesexy Owen, 30, popped the question to Buchanan on stage at his alma mater, Vero Beach High,this past Aprilafter he sang "Don't Think I Can't Love You" a proposal so spontaneous he didn't yet havethe ring he designed himself. Back at their home in Nashville, he took a knee again and proposed properly.

Family-Only Ceremony

The intimate ceremony was a family-only affair. Lacey's sister Leah was her maid of honor, and Jake's twin brother Jarrod served as best man. His uncle, Ron Owen, officiated.

After the couple exchanged vows and their first kiss, the party walked to the patio of the Vero Beach Hotel and Spa for champagne, cake cutting and a sit-down brunch.

"I'm looking forward to being a husband, someone his wife relies and leans on," said Owen, who will hit the road withTim McGraw Kenny Chesneyon June 2 though not before taking a honeymoon.

Added the bride: "He gives me so much love, that it's the best place of my life, and having the commitment of marriage means everything."

No wonder Jake Owen proposed. Lacey Buchanan, who Owen met when she played his love interest in his "Eight Second Ride" video, makes him a better man. That's what he told me Wednesday night (April 18) when he was in Chicago. I asked him how he knew Buchanan was the one.

"My mom and dad always said, 'When you know, you know.' And they've been married for 30 years. It's kind of hard to explain until you know. But I just knew. She's awesome," he said. "And she makes me a better man."

Their romance started (in Owen's mind, anyway) when they met on that video set almost four years ago. "I fell in love with her. But she was in my video, and I just didn't want to ever be the guy who hit on the girl in his video. I got her number and tried to keep in touch with her, but she blew me off," he admitted. He said it was when he convinced her to be in his "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" video -- she's the one in the green bikini -- that things took a more serious turn.

Now that Owen has proposed (in concert on April 7 in his hometown of Vero Beach, Fla.) and given her a ring (a 2.5-carat oval-cut diamond set in platinum), the wedding is next. And it's soon.

"We're getting married soon, in the next couple months. I mean, why not? We're gonna make it really cool and simple and get married on a beach somewhere at sunrise," he said. And when I asked where, he just smiled and said, "There's nothing like your hometown, right?" After the wedding, Owen says Buchanan will probably come out on the road with him for his upcoming Brothers of the Sun tour with Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw. "She likes it out here. And I like her to be out here," he said. "She keeps me sane."

When country star Jake Owen recently presentednow-fianc Lacey Buchananwith an engagement ring, I told her, The sparkle is never going to go away in that ring, and I dont want our sparkle to ever go away either, he tells PEOPLE. On your darkest days, I want you to look at it and see that theres a glimmer of light in it. I want it to always remind you of the possibilities of our relationship.

Owen, 30, designed the ring withLizzy Raye Jewelersin Atlanta, and he had a classic look in mind. So the singer selected a 2.5-carat oval-cut diamond set in platinum with a little bitty halo around it and small diamonds on the band. I want that ring to be timeless, he says. When my mom saw it, she said, That looks like something Princess Diana would wear. I was so excited to give it to her.

He got a lesson in diamond selection in the process, too. I think the color is E color, E/SI1, he says proudly. I know all of it. No inclusions! You can always go bigger with less clarity, but with hers I really wanted it to be bright white, sparkling.

m pretty spontaneous about a lot of things but that, he continues, look, shes the most unique, amazing person Ive ever met and I needed something on her finger just as unique as she is.

Speaking of spontaneous,Owens proposalwas exactly that.

He and Buchanan had talked about getting married, and Owen asked her father for permission, but on the day of his hometown show at his old high school in Florida I only had one song left to play and it was t Think I Cant Love You, he recalls. I wrote it a long time ago about my family and my dad and mom had been married for 30 years. I just saw [Buchanan] out there, my family, and I was like, forget the ring, screw it, this is like the perfect place to do it.

Even though he didnt have the ring in hand just yet, Owen brought Buchanan, 22, on stage and proposed, making a joke about not having the rock yet, since it worked with his song lyrics. The line in there is, Girl, I cant buy you a big diamond ring. So I kinda played it off as a joke. I was like, But its coming, I promise.

An added bonus? Because I asked her on stage, I have videos so well always be able to relive that moment, he says. It seemed like it went by in an instant. I didnt even remember if she said yes to me or not, it happened so fast! She had no idea. It was pretty cool to watch that happen.

Owen hits the road this summer with Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw on theBrothers of the Suntour. And when he performs his new single, The One That Got Away, hell surely note the irony of the title. Offstage, I got her, he says happily. She didnt get away this time.

Hayes released his debut album for Atlantic Records, Hunter Hayes, in 2011. He wrote or co-wrote all 12 songs and performed every instrument on the album, which features his Top 15-hit "Storm Warning" and his latest single "Wanted."

Nashville, TN On Saturday night, in his hometown of Vero Beach, FL, in front of 5,500 family, friends and fans, Jake Owen proposed to his girlfriend Lacey Buchanan during the performance of his hit song t Think I Cant Love You.

Lacey is the answer to all of my prayers, says Jake. She is an amazing person and Im the luckiest guy in the world.

When I was on stage, it just hit me how many of our family members (Lacey is also a Florida native) and friends were at the show, reflects Jake. So, I thought sharing that moment would mean a lot to everyone.

As the requests to talk to Jake about his engagement are rolling in, his response is,"I'll be happy to talk to everyone after this week passes. Right now, I'm focusing on what is most importantand that is spending some quality time with Lacey and our families.

Jake was in Vero Beach, FL, over the weekend performing at his annual concert to give back to his hometown community.

Jake is also selling out shows in record time around the country. He has sold-out ten shows to date in 2012. His show at JoeBar in Chicago sold-out in 10 minutes so a second show was added. The second show sold-out the first day it was on sale. Yesterday, his show in Ohio on March 17 sold-out in 18 minutes.

2012 started out a little rough for Jake. He had to reschedule a few shows in January after breaking his collarbone while he was snowboarding during the BMI Songwriters Festival in Crested Butte, CO, but it seems as though things are looking up.

The sixth annual Mardys Tennis & Jakes Music Fest began in Vero Beach, Florida on December 9-10, 2011. Jake to Undergo Surgery Today for Broken Collarbone

JAKE OWEN TO UNDERGO SURGERY TODAY FOR BROKEN COLLARBONE

JANUARY CONCERT DATES RESCHEDULED

Nashville, TN - RCA recording artist Jake Owen definitely experienced some bad luck on Friday, January 13. Jake was snowboarding in Crested Butte, CO during the BMI Songwriter's Festival when he hit a 17 inch ice block, took a spill and broke his collarbone.

After being rushed to the ER in Crested Butte, Jake tweeted, "Just broke my collarbone. Guess I charged this mountain a little too hard." In addition, Jake told Storme Warren, host of GACs Headline Country who was covering the event, "Man, it wasn't like I was doing anything crazy. That's why this is such a freak accident but the reality is if youre not falling, youre not learning."

Jake flew back to Nashville as soon as possible. On Monday, January 16, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Thomas Dovan confirmed that Jake's collarbone suffered multiple fractures and he recommended scheduling surgery immediately. So today, January 17, Jake will undergo surgery to repair his collarbone.

Unfortunately, that means recovery time and weeks of rehabilitation so Jake was forced to postpone his January shows. According to doctor's orders from the Elite Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center, Jake is expected to make a full recovery. His progress during rehab will determine when he will be able to start performing again. Jake says it will be sooner than later. m so bummed that I have to postpone some shows but I promise you this, Ill be back out on the road as soon as possible. I probably wont be able to hold a guitar for a while but I can still perform.

Jake's sold-out shows originally scheduled for January 18 and 19 at Joe's Bar in Chicago, IL have already been rescheduled for April 18 and 19. The shows originally scheduled for January 20 and 21 at Island Resort & Casino in Harris, MI have been rescheduled for April 20 and 21.

The last time Jake's shoulder was in a sling was life changing. When he was in college, he had a wake boarding accident which required reconstructive shoulder surgery. During rehabilitation, his left shoulder was in a sling and that is actually the time when he started playing guitar and writing songs. "If it weren't for that wake boarding accident," reflects Jake, "I might not even be a singer/songwriter today." Jake is optimistic that something good will definitely come from this injury as well.

DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER IN VERO BEACH

Nashville, TN - Due to heavy rains on Saturday, Jake Owen was forced to cancel his charity concert at Holman Stadium in his hometown of Vero Beach, FL. The concert would have been the final event in a weekend full of fundraising activities for Jake and his high school friend and tennis star Mardy Fish.

The pair hosts the Mardy's Tennis and Jake's Music Fest annually to raise money for St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital as well as children's athletic and music programs in their hometown.

Around 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Jake tweeted to his fans that "my charity show will have to be rescheduled due to the weather. Such a bummer. I'm sad thinking about it. Thanks again."

In addition, Jake says, Everyone always works so hard putting this event together. The situation was out of our control and it was so disappointing when we couldnt perform at the stadium, but the concert is just one part of the weekends events. We still raised money for a really great cause and the show will definitely be rescheduled.

The official cancellation statement says, Due to inclement weather and public safety concerns, the Mardys Tennis & Jakes Music Fest Concert scheduled for this evening, Saturday, December 10, 2011, has been canceled.The concert will be rescheduled for a date soon to be announced. C & H Events coordinator Jon Keeney said the outdoor venue at Holman Stadium at the Vero Beach Sports Village made the concert a public safety issue.

"Logistically, it was just out of the question," said Keeney. He said it was Jake who was the most resistant to canceling the show because he didn't want to disappoint the five thousand fans who had purchased tickets.

Since Jake couldnt perform at Holman Stadium on Saturday night, he decided to do an impromptu concert at the Riverside Caf in Vero Beach, which is where he could often be found singing his original songs on Sunday afternoons during his college days. Jake and his friend and label mate Chris Young came to Vero Beach to perform and they didnt want to leave town without doing so. Jake and his band and Chris sang until the wee hours of the night for a standing-room-only crowd.

Superstars to Perform 19 Stadium Dates For Musical Event of 2012

Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw will reunite for the musical event of 2012, the 'Brothers of the Sun' Tour. The 19-date stadium tour finds Chesney, who consistently has crowds "eating up his every word and move," joined by "master showman" (Huffington Post) McGraw for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"Tim and I have been great friends since we first toured together, and I can't wait to get back on the road with him," Chesney said. "He's one of my closest friends in music and in life, and I know this tour is going to be something special."

"Our friendship was forged on the road, so it's going to be a blast heading out with Kenny again," said McGraw. "We'll be having as much fun on stage as the fans will be having in the audience."

'Brothers of the Sun' will be the first time in 10 years that Chesney and McGraw have hit the road together. The reunion will kick off June 2 in Tampa, FL and will feature stadium shows on weekend dates at venues across the country, including Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field, Dallas' Cowboys Stadium, Detroit's Ford Field, and New Jersey's MetLife Stadium. 'Brothers of the Sun' will also feature special guests Grace Potter & The Nocturnals and Jake Owen.

The announcement comes on the heels of Chesney's massively successful 'Goin' Coastal' Tour, which blew away more than 1.3 million fans, making it the year's biggest country tour. A four-time CMA Entertainer of the Year winner, Chesney will be honored at CMT's Artists of the Year event on December 13. "Reality," Chesney's fifth single from 2010's 'Hemingway's Whiskey,' was shipped to radio in October.

McGraw is a three-time GRAMMY winner who has had #1 singles in each of the last three decades - 32 in total - including the title track of his most recent album, 'Southern Voice.' His 2010 tour in support of that album was the year's biggest country tour. "Felt Good On My Lips," from his double-CD 'Number One Hits,' spent three weeks at #1 earlier this year. McGraw is also an accomplished actor, having starred in films such as the Oscar-nominated blockbuster 'The Blind Side' and the critically acclaimed 'Friday Night Lights.'

Tickets for the Dallas, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Chicago, East Rutherford, Detroit, and Foxboro shows will go on sale Saturday, December 3 through Ticketmaster. On-sale info for the remaining dates will be announced in the coming weeks.

Nashville, TN - This weekend, for the fifth consecutive year, RCA
Nashville recording artist and Vero Beach, FL, native Jake Owen
headlined his annual hometown Jake Owen concert called "Mardy's Tennis &
Jake's Music Fest." This year's event moved to Holman Stadium, where
Owen and special guests Platinum-selling Capitol Records Nashville group
Little Big Town entertained a crowd of over 4,500.

Owen presented checks to St. Jude for $30,000 and a check to the Mardy
Fish Foundation for $33,000, on behalf of the Jake Owen Foundation -
which was recently created and added a new dimension to this year's
event. The Jake Owen Foundation joined longtime event beneficiary the
Mardy Fish Foundation to enhance this vehicle for charitable support
geared toward children. The Mardy Fish Foundation, established by
tennis pro Mardy Fish as a way to support youth organizations and
programs in the Vero Beach area, is a key beneficiary of the Jake Owen
Foundation, together with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

"Every year I'm reminded how privileged I am to have been raised in this
wonderful and charitable community," remarked the singer/songwriter. "It
is such an honor to be a part of giving back to the children of Vero
Beach." He continued, "And a special thanks goes out to everyone who
helped make this year's event so incredible - including my friends
Little Big Town and Mardy! We're already looking forward to next year
and making plans to grow this event!"

One of the highlights of the Friday concert was a Jake and Little Big
Town acoustic performance of their Grammy nominated "Life In A Northern
Town."

Prior to the evening concert on Friday, December 10, the event weekend
kicked-off earlier that day with a Kids' Tennis Clinic at Grand Harbor
Golf & Beach Club, the Official Host Sponsor of the Event. The event
continued through Saturday, December 11, with a luncheon that included a
live and silent auction and a Tennis Exhibition featuring Event Host
Mardy Fish, who was joined by tennis legend Ivan Lendl and the No.1
doubles team in the world, brothers Bob and Mike Bryan.

Fish, currently ranked No. 16 in the world and the No. 2 U.S. player,
won back-to-back titles for the first time in his career at Newport and
Atlanta this summer.

The entire weekend event is expected to raise thousands of additional
dollars for youth programs in the Indian River County of Florida.

Jake Owen Foundation Mission Statement
The Jake Owen Foundation, established in 2010, was created to offer its
support on a national level to children battling cancer and other
childhood diseases while also lending its support to the Mardy Fish
Foundation and its mission to assist youth in Owen's hometown area of
Indian River County, FL. Through Jake's association with the country
music community, he has had the opportunity to visit children and
families at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, who
are benefiting from the extensive research and patient care the hospital

June of 2010, young Nicholas lost his battle shortly before his 10th

Jake Owen Foundation Mission Statement
The Jake Owen Foundation, established in 2010, was created to offer its support on a national level to children battling cancer and other childhood diseases while also lending its support to the Mardy Fish Foundation and its mission to assist youth in Owens hometown area of Indian River County, FL. Jake Owen reveals star quality during exciting concert at the fair

Theres nothing more fun than being knocked off your feet, musically speaking, when checking out a recording artist for the first time. Monday night marked Jake Owens debut on a Lubbock stage, and he owned it.

Owen is one of eight artists headlining over nine nights at the Fair Park Coliseum at the Panhandle-South Plains Fair.

Vocally, he was strong throughout, but that sort of information could be ascertained simply by listening to his two recordings. Watching a live performance by Owen, however, allows one to see not only how he interacts with an audience, but also how much effort is put into making his show something memorable.

Owen clicked on all cylinders, aided in no small way by drummer Myron Howell and lead guitarist David Wallace.

There is a healthy sampling of rock in his country rock tunes, and just enough blues in Owens bloodstream to allow a few detours. Whats more, he surprised fans more than once with a tip of the hat although this young vocalist does not wear one to country legends who served as inspiration.

How many members of Mondays predominantly female audience walked in expecting to hear music made famous by Conway Twitty, one wonders?

Suffice it to say that Owen was no clock-watcher Monday, taking detours and letting band members know when he was changing his set list, eventually playing well past the 90-minute mark.

That allowed more extended versions of his songs, more opportunities to share the spotlight with band members Wallace; Howell; Robbie Emerson, bass guitar; Joe Arick, keyboards; and Kyle Everson, steel guitar.

Wasting no time introducing hits, Owen opened with a sly rendition of Yee Haw, and quickly had the not-quite-capacity crowd in his pocket.

Owen records a lot of his own material and manages to come across as an original voice, even in an industry where heartbreak and tears are songwriting staples.

Consider his borderline opening to one song: I had a one night stand with my best friends baby sister. And to this day he still wont speak to me.

It turns out to be a song more about regrets, and Owen sells it by letting listeners know that hed like to change a lot of things. with Me, he sings.

He made Slow Hand sound positively contemporary, even after saluting Conway Twitty, whose version of the song (originally recorded by the Pointer Sisters) became his last chart-topping hit.

And kudos to Owen for knowing how to juggle tempos, never letting listeners get too down even after capturing all of the rejection and sadness in a Mark Chesnutt hit, Too Cold at Home.

Mind you, the introduction was strange. Owen said he had just played in Beaumont, then applauded Beaumont for being the home of George Jones (he moved there at age 11) before singing a tune by Chessnutt, who is from Beaumont. There is a symmetry there somewhere.

Highlights were numerous; indeed, ask any person present to name his favorite moment, and the answers probably vary. That said, its not that often that percussion stands out to the extent it did Monday. Howell, who also has played drums for the BarKays and Patti LaBelle, told reporters that he views Owen as the football game and the band as cheerleaders. This band, however, offers more than support, with Wallace stepping forward for guitar solos several times and Howells beautifully choreographed pounding of his kit rarely more impressive than when Owen was singing The Bad in Me.

Mondays audience enjoyed an unexpected treat when Owen gave his band a break and invited Nashville songwriter Phillip White to join him at center stage.

White has written hits for artists ranging from Reba McEntire to Rascal Flatts, and his decision to sing If It Wasnt for Texas and m Movin On earned huge cheers from Owens fans.

Im not sure why White was present. Obviously, he and Owen are co-writing, and White evidently is traveling for a while with the band. Regardless, his appearance was a treat, and Owen appeared to be having just as much fun with their cleverly titled Help Me Help You Get Him Off Your Mind. Now, thats country.

Several parts of the show easily could have segued into a farewell, but Owen appeared to be having way too much fun. In fact, he also delivered a medley that included, but was not limited to, Hank Williams Jr.s Country Boy Can Survive and Alabamas Mountain Music and Feels So Right, leading right into Owens own Eight Second Ride.

Owen is used to fans rushing the stage at times. He even tried to open a conversation with a security person standing in front of the stage, asking facetiously, You know youre scaring the women away?

No matter. Owen jumped off the stage to greet as many fans as possible and, after the show, ran from the bus to yet another group of fans to give autographs and pose for pictures.

I havent witnessed his level of enthusiasm since meeting Garth Brooks, back when he was playing clubs. Owen has star quality.

American tennis star and Vero Beach native Mardy Fish and ACM Award-winning country artist Jake Owen will once again return home to Vero Beach to host the fifth annualMardys Tennis & Jakes Music Fest to Benefit the Mardy Fish Foundation, December 10 - 11, 2010. The Mardy Fish Foundation benefits youth in Indian River County.

Mardys Tennis & Jakes Music Fest will be held at Grand Harbor Golf & Beach Club, Official Host Sponsor of the Event. The Event weekend will kick-off with a Friday afternoon Kids Tennis Clinic followed by a Jake Owen Concert. Saturday will feature a Luncheon with live and silent auction and Tennis Exhibition featuring Event Host Mardy Fish and current and former touring tennis professionals in a singles and doubles match.

Fish and Owen both grew up in Vero Beach and have incredible memories of their childhood home. The two have enjoyed hosting the Event the last four years and are excited for the fifth annual Mardys Tennis & Jakes Music Fest to Benefit the Mardy Fish Foundation. The outpouring of community support for the Event in years past has been overwhelming said Fish, this support allows the Foundation to continue to help children in the Vero Beach community. Were hoping that everyone will mark the December dates in their calendar and come out for what we believe will be our best Event yet.

Fish created the Foundation to support youth organizations in Indian River County. The Foundation opened the Pelican Island Elementary School/Mardy Fish Music Club and Health & Fitness Clubon September 11, 2007. The program provides a place for children to partake in various activities that will help them better themselves using sports, music, dance, and art.

The last two years have been a productive time for The Mardy Fish Foundation which has been made possible by the proceeds from Mardy's Tennis & Jake's Music Fest. Additional after school programs were opened for the 2009-2010 school year at J.A. Thompson Elementary, Glendale Elementary, and Sebastian Elementary. In April 2010, a program was added at Vero Beach Elementary. Programs will be launched at Treasure Coast Elementary, Liberty Magnet Elementary and Dodgertown Elementary in August 2010. The Foundation also began Mardys Kids on Courts, a five-week tennis program for children ages 7-12 that focuses on match play and instruction. The Foundation will continue to support other youth organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club of Vero Beach, and The Youth Guidance Foundation which uses funds raised by the Mardy Fish Foundation to provide children the opportunity to attend summer camp and participate in sports and music programs.

The talented Fish kicked off the 2010 season with his seventh career doubles title on the ATP World Tour, partnering with Sam Querrey to win the SAP Open in San Jose. Fish also stormed out of the gate at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, defeating World No. 4 player Andy Murray on March 27th and again defeated Murray en route to the finals at Queens Club in London. He has won singles titles inStockholm, Houston and Delray Beach. Fish, the 2004 Olympic silver medalist, has been ranked among the top 20, and has represented the United States in Davis Cup.

Owen, who originally hoped for a career as a professional golfer before an injury helped him view music as his road to success, has been Grammy, CMA, ACM, and CMT nominated and received theAcademy of Country Music's Top New Male Artist Award in 2009. As you know we are getting ready to gear up for this fitness challenge starting NEXT THURSDAY APRIL 1st.... You DO NOT have to do P90X... This is just a challenge to make yourself the best you can be and get yourself in the best shape you can by summer. All the details will be posted first part of next week before thursday. We are working out legal issues that I was unaware of when I made the spontaneous decision to do this contest...thanks to lawyers we all have to wait on them!!! We just want to make sure you all are well informed on what this contest consists of and that you all are ready to go!! I cant wait to get myself in the best shape possible and I'm so proud to do it with all of y'all!! Sioux City, IA Review

Maybe one of the finest baritones working in country today, Owen acted like he was playing a 60,000-seat arena with every perk in the business. Instead, he was just jumping around a barebones set, scaling speakers, working the front row and giving the audience the kind of show a higher ticket price would merit.

While his set was heavy on new stuff (he has a couple of bona fide radio hits in the hopper), it was t Think I Cant Love You that sent chills and proved his worth.

While Eight Second Ride is a bigger hit, its his novelty song. Now that fans know who he is, they can enjoy the riffs and emotion he invests in his music.

A new song about the one who got away has potential to be the big hit of summer 2010.

Owen is a keeper -- one wholl have longevity in the business because he knows how to entertain and isnt afraid to do it.

Nashville, TN RCA Nashville hitmaker Jake Owen thunders into country radio
this week with his new single, Tell Me, one of the most distinctive tracks
from his Easy Does It collection and the one he playfully calls his Bonanza

Written by Owen, Don Poythress, and album producer Jimmy Ritchey, Tell Me
is one of eight tracks that Jake co-wrote for, Easy Does It, and its one of
his favorites.

Lyrically, its about wishing hed been warned about the hurt of a good love
gone wrong, but sonically, he says, The intro to it really sets the mood.
Theres got to be a feel for me. I have to feel something when I listen to
a song, and Tell Me is a lot like that. Its got this dark, mysterious
kind of sound to it. It starts out with kind of the John Wayne riding in on
the open range, then youve got like the Bonanza thing in there.

s funny how many people consider me a bad boy, says Jake Owen by phone from Nashville. And if you judge him by his current single, Eight Second Ride, its easy to think that.

But Owen is much closer in temperament to the sweet, playful title cut off his sophomore album, Easy Does It.

If you hear him play those songs at WIRKs First Annual Rib Round-Up Saturday at Cruzan Amphitheatre, you can make up your own mind.

Owen has been on a steady path to stardom since he released his first album in 2006. Starting with Me charted three Top 20 songs, and everyone wanted to know how to get Owens mega-white smile.

m very fortunate that everything happened the way it did. Im proud I won the (Academy of Country Music) Top New Male Vocalist, and I was nominated for a Grammy. A big year for me, and one I will always look back on and remember and be thankful for, he says.

And 2010 is shaping up to be another banner year for the 28-year-old singer-songwriter from Vero Beach.

m in a good spot. My shows are going well, attendance is great. Now were thinking about what song to put out as the next single. We want it to take my career to another level, and we want to make sure whatever that song is, its a song that can do that.

Hes got a good track record. The first two songs off his sophomore album have done well, peaking at No. 2 and No. 10, on Billboards Hot Country Songs chart.

The first single, t Think I Cant Love You, which was inspired by his parents relationship, was his highest chart single to date and won Owen a Broadcast Music Inc. songwriters award. At the gala, he was surrounded by his heroes and peers, including Kris Kristofferson, who was named a BMI Icon.

I had my dad there, and when I walked up to get my award, there was my dad, proud and smiling, and right over to the left of him was Kris Kristofferson, smiling and clapping, and I thought if I havent made it now, I dont know what that feeling would be like, he says. Here I am standing in front of people that I really look up to and admire and theyre applauding for me.

Hard work as a value

But despite this applause, Owen says hes still working to make it.

A lot of people, when they see your face on TV, they think youve made it, but I am so far from having made it! he laughs. Every single day Im working so hard to keep this ball rolling in the right direction. Its hard work, but I love what I do, so that makes it easy.

Hard work is a value introduced by his parents, and tempered by the years he spent playing competitive golf.

One of the reasons Ive been able to do the things Ive done, and have become the person I am, is because of the things that they instilled in me as a child. I think golfing helped, because its a solitary sport and you keep your own score. You can cheat if you want. My dad always used to say that to me: Son, you can cheat if you want to but youre cheating yourself. You have to face that.

In music, its also a solitary activity. You can sit down and write your own songs, but in a round-about way you can cheat yourself about how hard youre working. More than anything, you cant become great at golf without working really hard at it. It doesnt just come easy and neither does music.

Lessons from golf

Sports also helped Owen develop another important quality: confidence.

s a great book called Golf Is Not a Game of Perfect by (sports psychologist) Bob Rotella, and actually it carries over into life in general. Its based upon being very confident and thats true in music, too.

But I dont think golf is about being perfect, because you dont hit every shot perfectly. You might hit one perfect and the next in the bunker and youve got to figure out how to get out of there and hit the next shot great. The same thing with music. Every day is going to be different: different circumstances, different venues, different crowds. You have learn to deal with that and keep your confidence. Some days Im not going to be feeling well but Ive got to get out there and pretend like I am. I learned that from golf.

But some lessons were harder than others, and they werent all good.

The final cut, Nothing Grows in Shadows, deals with two sensitive, lesson-laden topics: school bullies and sideline coaches. The song has an incredible twist at the end: The kid who was bullied grows up to save the life of the bullys mom when she gets cancer.

The song was pitched to me by a friend and I remember hearing the part about all you fathers sitting in the bleachers yelling at your kid. My dad did that. He never meant any harm by it. He wanted my brother and me to do well. Hes a great father, but I remember being up to bat and hearing my dad over my shoulder, Keep your head down! Its very hard for a kid to blossom into who they truly should become when theyre always in the shadow of their fathers or mothers.

I sing a lot of songs that are fun, and some that are kind of philosophical, but that song really hit home for me, especially because my mom had a heart attack a couple years ago.

The song ends with bagpipes playing the melody. Bagpipes, he says, have always represented timelessness to him.

Living in the moment

Among the best songs on the album is a cautionary tale about living in the moment.

Green Bananas is about a buddy of mine, an older guy I grew up fishing with when I was about 13, and he was probably 50. He had a friend that passed away when they were younger and he always said that, t buy green bananas, and the guy named his boat after it, he says. s a great message. I think it hits home for a lot of people.

As much as he may try to live in the moment, Owen says theres a lot in the future .

Now Im looking for songs for a third record, and Im excited about that. And Im looking forward to getting back down to Florida for some of that nice weather, he says. ve had snow on the ground in Nashville forever.

JAKE OWEN ROCKS TO SELL-OUT CROWDS

Nashville, TN (January 26, 2010) RCA Nashville recording artist Jake Owen hit the road last weekend in his home state of Florida and played to unprecedented crowds in sold-out venues.

Owen kicked-off the weekend in Tampa, FL at the Dallas Bull where his hotly anticipated show sold-out before the doors opened a first for the venue. He then made the jaunt to the Manatee Co. Fair in Palmetto, FL where fair sources say he played to a record crowd. Owen finished the weekend at the famous Floyds Music Store in Tallahassee, FL. He rocked the crowd at his old college stomping grounds with a rousing set, including his current hit Eight Second Ride.

The country rocker also continues his partnership with Championship Bull Riding (CBR). He will perform after the latest CBR event in Chicago, IL on February 5th.

In March Owen heads to Washington, DC, where he has been invited to perform at the National Association of Broadcasters leadership dinner, courtesy of BMI. The dinner also plays host to keynote speaker David Gregory of NBC News Meet The Press.

The NAB State Leadership Conference brings hundreds of radio and television broadcasters to Capitol Hill to meet with legislators and regulators on issues impacting free, local broadcasters.

Owen has enjoyed five consecutive hit singles since releasing his debut album, "Startin' With Me" in 2006. Nashville, TN (January 7, 2010) RCA Nashville recording artist Jake Owen races back to work in the New Year by teaming up with CMT to host an episode of Top 20 Countdown The latest episode will air tomorrow, Friday, January 8th at 11AM EST with encore presentations on Saturday, January 9th at 11AM EST and Sunday, January 10th at 11:30AM EST. His own steamy video for his self-penned current single Eight Second Ride also appears in the countdown.

Opry Live Special to Air December 19 on GAC TV

A special episode of Opry Live featuring Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Jake Owen, and Rodney Atkins is set to air on GAC: Great American Country this Sat., Dec. 19 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern. The special was taped last month at the historic Ryman Auditorium in downtown Nashville.

Some of the performances fans can look forward to seeing on the show are Underwoods Cowboy Casanova, her most recent #1 hit from the just-released CD Play On; McBrides current single I Just Call You Mine from her 2009 release Shine; Owens lead single from his current release Easy Does It, t Think I Cant Love You; and Atkins About the South from his earlier release If Youre Going Through Hell.

Jake Owen just bought a record player, so he's been listening to a lot of vinyl lately. Willie Nelson, Vern Gosdin, Waylon Jennings. And that's how you know that his kind of country is going to have deeper roots than most.

Sure, he's relevant enough to Twitter about "moving his hips like yeah" because he has a Miley Cyrus song stuck in his head. And he looks the part of just another pretty boy who is much too young to know anything about life's ups and downs. But the reality of Jake Owen is that the guy can write, play and sing songs as if he were the last genuine country man on Earth.

Fresh off his latest BMI Songwriter Award for "Don't Think I Can't Love You," his 2009 Academy of Country Music award for new male artist and a recent gig at the Grand Ole Opry, Owen knows just what he's going to do when he gets to Joe's Bar on Friday.

"I go to shows all the time. Especially at places like Joe's Bar. I like watching how other people can really entertain a small club crowd like that, so I have learned a lot from them" Owen said. "Sometimes, you know, it's just cool to be a spectator and take it in."

So expect the unexpected. Don't expect a show where the band's just going through the motions, or one where a rookie is just getting his sea legs. And don't expect the full-on lunacy of a Kenny Chesney or Rascal Flatts arena show, either. Owen's shows have more spontaneity and swagger, and less drama and polish.

What you will hear is one of the most underappreciated voices in country music. A husky, rich baritone that seems to suit the lyrics he writes. If he's singing his current hit, "Eight Second Ride," you'll hear confidence. If he's breaking out the rural celebration of "Yee Haw," you'll hear his wild side. On "Startin' With Me," you'll hear introspection.

While Owen does his share of early-evening opening slots, headlining gives him room to explore more music, such as the hits the crowd expects, a few unreleased songs off his first two albums and even a few new ones he's still putting the finishing touches on. But this won't be a quiet-listening theater show. It will be an elbow-to-elbow, standing-room-only, late-night crowd.

And with his recent string of awards, Owen could be on the verge of putting little honky tonks behind him. (Not that he wants to, but sometimes country music has an "up or out" attitude about rising stars.) After last month's BMI Songwriter's Award Gala in Nashville, Owen said, "It was pretty neat to have my song be honored as one of most performed songs of year. You walk up to get the award, and you look around and see Kris Kristofferson and Keith Urban clapping for you, and it finally feels like you're included in their world."

Owen describes his music as "not overdone or overthought." "Whether it's perfect or not, it's who I am," he says.

And who he is is a singer with a soulful voice that Nelson, Jennings and the late Gosdin would be proud to have inspired.

Vero Beach, Fla. The fourth annual Mardys Tennis & Jakes Music Fest to Benefit the Mardy Fish Foundation is excited to announce that Casey Beathard, Kevin Denny, Kendall Marvel, Jimmy Ritchy, and Philip White will open for Jake Owen on December 11, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. at Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.

Casey Beathard is known for his up-tempo party anthems and was named Songwriter of the Year by Broadcast Music Incorporated in 2004. Beathard has written Top 10 songs for some of Countrys most successful artists including Kenny Chesney, Trace Atkins, Gary Allen, Tracy Byrd, and Billy Currington.

Kevin Denney released his self-titled album in 2001 which produced the Top 20 hit s Just Jessie. Denney is also known for his songwriting talent which was displayed on Tracy Byrds A Cowboy and a Dancer in 2006 and on Craig Morgans in 2009.

Kendall Marvel has joined the ranks of Nashville top writers, producers and performers. Marvel penned Right Where I Need to Be," the hit recorded by Gary Allen, along with With Me, Yee Haw, Hard Not To Love You, Places to Run and You Can Thank Dixie from Jake Owens debut album and Owens Top 5 hit t Think I Cant Love You off of Easy Does It.

Jimmy Ritchey is a writer and producer that has worked with some of Countrys biggest stars. Ritchey wrote George Straits five song off of Mark Chesnutts the Honky Tonk and by Tracy Lawrence. He has also worked with Jake Owen since the beginning of his career, co-writing over 15 songs with Owen.

Phillip White is one of Nashvilles most sought after songwriters with an Academy of Country Music Award for best song to his credit. Some of Whites Top 10 songs include Rascall Flats hit m Moving On which won the best song award, Reba McEntires m a Survivor and He Gets That From Me, and Neal McCoys s Got His Beer Goggles On.

Jake aims for CMA Awards

Owen, whose rocking brand of country already has landed a handful of singles in the top 20, was named top new malevocalist in April at the Academy of Country Music Awards, and he's vying this week to be named best new act by the Country Music Association.

Although the CMAs are considered more prestigious, the ACMs have grown in stature in the past decade, making both new-artist nominations significant for Owen, who launched his career in 2005.

"If I could pull off both of these, it would be an amazing feat. But just to be nominated at all is an awesome thing," says Owen, who's competing with Hootie & the Blowfish alum Darius Rucker, Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson and the Zac Brown Band.

Owen, who released his second album, "Easy Does It," this year, credits hard work and a busy touring schedule for much of his early progress, but he also values the exposure that comes with winning awards.

"I definitely think the notoriety of that (ACM) award, which is something to hang my hat on, has helped out," says Owen, whose recent single, "Don't Think I Can't Love You," hit No. 2 on the country charts.

The singer also is looking forward to his second chance this year to hang out backstage with such superstars as George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Reba McEntire, KeithUrban, Brooks & Dunn and Taylor Swift, all of whom are scheduled to perform on Wednesday's CMA broadcast.

Co-hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, as well as Martina McBride, Sugarland, Kid Rock and Rucker, also will perform.

"It's very humbling to walk backstage," Owen says. "I'm 28, so seven years ago I was still in college, sitting on a barstool and playing for my friends.

"Now, it feels so good to have that mutual respect from artists I have always respected, and to feel that people are pulling for me and enjoying the kind of music that I'm putting out."

Florida-born Owen, who grew up in Vero Beach and dreamed of being a professional golfer before an injury intervened, is thankful for the support he has received as an opening act for Chesney, Paisley and Sugarland, all multiple CMA winners.

"The one person who has always been very helpful to me and given me a lot of advice is Kenny Chesney," Owen says. "I can't speak highly enough of him."

Owen is expecting a bittersweet experience as he shares the stage with Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, who have announced that they will end their 20-year partnership next year.

"I'm a huge Brooks & Dunn fan. I just love Ronnie's voice," Owen says.

"But that's the way of the world, not just music. They're stepping back and allowing a spot for someone else to step up, whether it's me or anyone else."
